At today’s Morobe Show, Bugandi Secondary School proudly displayed a 66-year-old bass drum with a storied past. This drum is particularly significant as it was part of the formation of the renowned Bugandi Brass Boys Band in 1958. While the drum has been out of use and kept in storage, this event marked its debut appearance at the Morobe Show.
The brass band was founded in 1959 by a former military officer who became a teacher, coinciding with the establishment of Bugandi Secondary School in the same year. Despite its age, the drum is still in good condition, though its canvas is damaged. Replacing the canvas will necessitate sourcing materials from Australia.
