In the late ’70s and early ’80s, iconic drummer, producer, multi-instrumentalist, and vocalist Hirsh Gardner, along with his band New England, captivated audiences with their blend of AOR and melodic rock. The band’s debut single, “Don’t Ever Wanna Lose Ya,” made waves, breaking into Billboard’s Top 40 and propelling New England into the spotlight, especially during their stint supporting KISS on the 1979 Dynasty tour. Over the years, Hirsh Gardner earned acclaim for producing various artists and garnered “Producer of the Year” accolades from his musical peers.
Gardner is set to release his latest album, Third Time’s A Charm, on November 22 via Deko Entertainment. The album is uniquely split into two halves: the first half contains original material building on the foundations of his previous solo work, while the second half features fresh recordings of classic New England tracks, bringing them into the modern era. Fans can look forward to reimagined versions of songs like “Don’t Ever Wanna Lose Ya” and “Holding Out On Me,” with contributions from New England members and special guests such as Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal (ex-Guns N’ Roses) and Chris Laney (Pretty Maids).
Gardner describes the album as a diverse collection of 12 tracks, mixing original compositions that range from heavy metal to melodic rock ballads. Tracks like “Luver’s Lullaby” showcase his hard rock roots, while songs like “Miles Away” and “Angel In The Sky” bring a more commercial, radio-friendly sound. The other half of the album celebrates New England’s legacy with new versions of their classic hits. Notable collaborators include Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal, Chris Laney, and members of Gardner’s own band, The Hirsh Gardner Project.
Laney, who co-produced and mixed the album, shares his excitement: “I’ve been a huge New England fan from the beginning. Working with Hirsh has been an incredible experience. We collaborated on multiple tracks, and I am proud of the result. I believe New England fans will love what we’ve created.”
Bumblefoot also expressed his admiration, saying, “I’ve been a fan of Hirsh and New England since I saw them open for KISS in 1979 at Madison Square Garden. It’s surreal to now play guitar on one of the songs I grew up listening to. It’s a true honor to be part of this project.”
The highly anticipated Third Time’s A Charm will be released on November 22, with the music video for “Don’t Ever Wanna Lose Ya” now available for streaming.
