Guitarist Captivates Judges with AC/DC Classic to Claim Talent Show Victory

The inaugural Wensleydale’s Got Talent show took place at Holy Trinity Church in Wensley, featuring an array of 20 diverse acts that drew a full house of enthusiastic audience members.

Following an introduction by “Light My Choir,” master of ceremonies Harry Scrope welcomed the panel of judges: Lady Bolton, Valerie Bolton, Kathy Opanowich, and Mark Sprout. By the end of the evening, the judges expressed how challenging their choices were.

Performers of all ages took to the stage to showcase their skills, while non-competing acts by Elizabeth Carter, Mick Yare, and the Play>Record>Perform band entertained the crowd in between.

The evening highlighted a wide range of talents, including solo singers, duets, violinists, saxophonists, drummers, dancers, guitarists performing with and without vocals, an organ recital, a one-time-only ABBA tribute band, and even a stand-up comedy routine.

Prizes were awarded by Hector Orde-Powlett as follows:

First Prize: Jonty Ledbetter, who wowed the audience with “Back in Black” by AC/DC on his electric guitar, earning a £50 prize donated by Harry Scrope and David Greenwood.

Second Prize: Lili Bako, who delivered a solo performance of “Into the Unknown” from Frozen, winning a book token from The Wonky Tree Bookshop in Leyburn.

Third Prize: Jack and Cara, aged 11 and 10, a Latin dance duo who took home a large hamper donated by Campbells of Leyburn as they prepare for the British Championships in Blackpool this November.

A spokesperson for the event, held on Saturday, October 12, remarked, “It was inspiring to witness the 20 diverse talents on show, and we have no doubt that many will go on to perform on grander stages in the future.”
