Before achieving global success with Coheed and Cambria, Travis Stever was just a kid passionate about music.
“I was surrounded by music from the moment I was born,” he recalls. “The sounds of musical expression were always in my ears. Both of my parents loved and created music.”
Stever spent his formative years alternating between Park Ridge and Nyack, New York, before graduating from Park Ridge High School.
While he has been part of numerous bands over the years, he is most recognized as the lead guitarist and co-founder of the progressive rock group Coheed and Cambria.
The band has released ten studio albums, along with several live albums and EPs. Their second and third albums—In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 (2003) and Good Apollo, I’m Burning Star IV, Volume One: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness (2005)—both achieved gold certification from the RIAA, selling over 500,000 copies each.
Unsurprisingly, Stever’s first instrument was the guitar.
“My father always had acoustic guitars lying around,” he says. “I picked them up long before I knew how to play. But that developed a love and comfort with the instrument from day one.”
Currently, Stever dedicates most of his time to Coheed and Cambria, along with another project called L.S. Dunes. This group features Anthony Green, the vocalist from Circa Survive, Saosin, and The Sound of Animals Fighting, as well as My Chemical Romance guitarist Frank Iero, bassist Tim Payne, and drummer Tucker Rule from Thursday. L.S. Dunes released their debut album, Past Lives, in 2022 and embarked on their first tour the following year.
