The V-Drums Quiet Design kit uses innovative noise-reduction technology to allow drummers to practice with minimal sound disturbance.
Roland has introduced its V-Drums Quiet Design kit, aimed at musicians who want to play drums with significantly less noise. Ideal for everyone from beginners to professionals, the fully electric drum set helps reduce the noise typically associated with drumming, making it possible to practice without disturbing those nearby, whether it’s morning, day, or night.
Roland, a renowned Japanese company known for producing electric instruments for over five decades, launched the V-Drums line in 1997. While some traditionalists may argue against the digital format, these electric drum sets have evolved to sound almost identical to their acoustic counterparts, while offering the convenience of a compact design and the option to play through headphones.
Although playing with headphones can eliminate the sound of drum samples, the physical act of hitting the pads and pressing pedals can still generate noise. However, Roland’s Quiet Design kit addresses this issue by engineering the set to minimize play noise, claiming a 75% noise reduction compared to previous models.
The V-Drums Quiet Design kit achieves this with several key features. Noise-absorbing inserts, mesh drum heads, and vents have been added to the snare, toms, and cymbals to reduce excess sound. The kick drum, traditionally one of the loudest parts of a drum kit, features an eight-inch surface with a triple-layer cushion and double-ply mesh to absorb noise. Additionally, hemispherical rubber feet on the kit’s base pads help isolate sound and prevent vibrations from spreading.
For those already using other V-Drum products, the Quiet Design kit is compatible with previous models, including Roland’s TD-07 control module. The full kit, priced at $1,799.99, includes the module, while a version with just the pads is available for $1,599.99.
