In the ongoing competition of guitar amp modeling, Boss has introduced a new contender: the GX-10. This latest offering serves as a more affordable alternative to the GX-100, continuing the popular trend of compact modelers and multi-effects units.
Designed for both guitarists and bassists, the GX-10 features a three-switch setup accompanied by one expression pedal. This versatile unit also includes a USB connection, enabling it to function as an audio interface.
Beyond its portable design, Boss promises “a universe of ultra-responsive tones.” While it may not literally provide an entire universe, the GX-10 does boast 23 guitar amp models and nine bass amp models. It incorporates Boss’s renowned AIRD technology, which effectively mimics the response of tube amplifiers.
In addition to the amp models, the GX-10 offers a total of 170 effects, covering all the usual categories like distortion, reverb, echo, and modulation. It also features dedicated bass effects such as Slow Gear, Octave, and Slicer, among others.
True to Boss’s reputation, the interface is user-friendly and intuitive, highlighted by a color touch display and parameter controls.
The GX-10 provides several operational modes for added convenience. Users can assign three memories for each switch, allowing for settings like clean, crunch, and lead. Alternatively, they can access a vast collection of tones with 66 banks and 198 user presets.
For those looking to record at home, the GX-10 can connect to a personal computer, as well as to iOS or Android devices. This impressive compact processor is priced at $399.99.
