Jan Preston, a pianist and singer, will bring her Boogie Circus to Gisborne’s Evolution Theatre this week.
Born in Greymouth, Preston, along with her percussionist husband Mike Pullman, is touring the north and east of the island to promote her new album, Pianoland.
The septuagenarian duo will showcase Preston’s original songs and compositions, which complement her long and colorful career—stories she will share between performances.
Classically trained, Preston has navigated a lengthy and sometimes challenging path to piano stardom.
Audiences can look forward to tales from her diverse performance history, including “dives” in Manhattan and prestigious concert halls across Europe. She will recount her early days with Wellington’s Red Mole Theatre Troupe, her time with the Auckland rock band Coup D’etat—which won Single of the Year at the 1981 New Zealand Music Awards with their hit “Doctor I Like Your Medicine”—and her relocation to Sydney in the 80s, along with her enduring 50-year career as a pianist, singer/songwriter, and composer.
The Boogie Circus Duo will take place at Evolution Theatre, located at 75 Disraeli St, on Friday from 7:30 PM to 9:45 PM. Tickets can be purchased through Eventfinda or at the Gisborne i-Site on Grey St.
