Irish intersectional feminist band M(h)aol has released a new single and announced a small show in Dublin. Now a trio, the band consists of Constance Keane (She/Her), Jamie Hyland (She/Her), and Sean Nolan (He/Him), following the departure of bassist Zoe Greenway, who left to pursue film work, and singer Róisín Nic Ghearailt, who exited due to the challenges of touring with a chronic condition.
“Snare” marks the band’s second single since the reissue of their debut album, Attachment Styles, on Merge, following their first release, “Pursuit.”
Lead vocalist and drummer Constance Keane reflects on the song’s theme: “’Snare’ is about the countless conversations I’ve had since my first drum lesson on my ninth birthday regarding how strange it is that I play that instrument, or how I should approach it differently. The idea of society gendering an inanimate object like a drum kit, which brings me so much joy and release, has always frustrated me, and I thought it was time to sing about it.”
The band will perform a small show at Anseo in Dublin on November 29th.
