Tony Iommi’s Iconic Guitar Sparks Dispute with Hard Rock Cafe

by Madonna

Guitar legend and Black Sabbath co-founder Tony Iommi is facing a troubling situation involving one of his most cherished instruments and the Hard Rock Cafe chain.

In a recent discussion, Iommi revealed that the well-known restaurant chain is refusing to uphold an agreement concerning his iconic red Gibson SG guitar, affectionately dubbed “Monkey” due to its distinctive sticker. This guitar was prominently featured on several of Black Sabbath’s influential early albums.

Iommi explained that the issue began when a Hard Rock Cafe memorabilia buyer visited him in England. “I had retired the Monkey SG from touring because it had become too precious to risk damaging,” he noted. The buyer proposed purchasing the guitar for public display, with a verbal agreement allowing Iommi to repurchase it at the original price if he ever wanted it back.

The arrangement seemed beneficial, as the guitar would be preserved and displayed publicly rather than stored away. However, complications arose after the buyer’s passing. When Iommi attempted to activate his buyback option, Hard Rock Cafe representatives denied any knowledge of the arrangement.

Despite Iommi’s efforts to reclaim this important piece of heavy metal history, the guitar remains in the possession of Hard Rock Cafe.
