The VII International Jascha Heifetz Competition for Violinists, organized by the European Union of Music Competitions for Youth (EMCY), is now accepting applications from violinists born on or after February 2, 1998. The competition will take place in Lithuania from February 14 to 22, 2025.
The jury will include prominent figures such as Gidon Kremer (chairperson), Ingrida Armonaitė, Mario Hossen, Rūta Lipinaitytė, Mihaela Martin, George Tudorache, and Pavel Vernikov.
Several prizes will be awarded: the first prize is set at 12,000 EUR, the second prize at 8,000 EUR, and the third prize at 5,000 EUR. Additionally, three diplomas worth 1,000 EUR each will be given.
Participants will also have the chance to compete for a special prize of 1,000 EUR for the best performance of “With a Birdsong” by Algirdas Martinaitis, a 1,000 EUR prize for the best Lithuanian participant, and a scholarship for the 15th Swiss International Music Academy (SIMA) in 2025. A special prize established by Bärenreiter Sheet Music Publishing House will also be awarded.
Performance opportunities will be provided with several orchestras, including the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra, Poznań Philharmonic, Lithuanian National Philharmonic Society, Kaunas State Philharmonic, Filarmonica de Stat Transilvania, and Paliesius Manor.
The pre-selection round will occur online via video submissions. Candidates may record two pieces separately at different times and locations, but each piece must be performed in its entirety, with no editing or cutting allowed.
In the first round of the competition, up to 55 participants will be accepted; no more than 15 will progress to the second round, and a maximum of six will qualify for the final.
The first and second rounds will be held at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. Finalists will perform with the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Modestas Pitrėnas, at the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Society.
The application deadline is January 1, 2025, with candidates notified of their acceptance by January 8, 2025.
