Metallica’s legendary guitarist, Kirk Hammett, has joined host Mark Agnesi for a special episode of Gibson TV’s show, The Collection, which explores the personal guitar collections of some of music’s biggest stars.
“Kirk’s episode of The Collection is my favorite to date,” said Mark Agnesi, director of brand experience at Gibson. “As a young player in the early ’90s, Kirk was a huge influence on me. Seeing and playing some of the guitars I grew up watching him use was truly incredible.”
Todd Harapiak, Gibson’s global media director, added, “Kirk is a music icon, and Gibson is honored to collaborate with him in realizing his creative passions. We are excited to share the stories of these guitars with music fans around the world.”
In this new episode, Kirk Hammett, who has been Metallica’s lead guitarist and a contributing songwriter since 1983, welcomes Mark Agnesi to his home and studio in Los Angeles, offering an insider’s look at his impressive and rare guitar collection. Before his time with Metallica, Hammett founded the metal band Exodus. The episode dives into his upbringing, early musical influences, and unique approach to songwriting, featuring stories about his extensive guitar collection.
Among the highlights are a 1952 Les Paul™ Goldtop, a 1960 Les Paul TV Special, a 1956 Les Paul Custom, a 1958 Les Paul Standard, and a 1959 Les Paul Standard “Greeny,” among many others, including the 1957 Korina Flying V™ Prototype and a 1964 J-180 Everly Brothers acoustic guitar.
On November 29, Gibson Publishing will release The Collection: Kirk Hammett, a deluxe hardcover coffee table book featuring the Metallica icon. The book will detail the stories behind Kirk’s rare and highly collectible instruments, which have been used on hit records and on stages worldwide in front of millions of fans. This marks Gibson Publishing’s second release, following last year’s successful The Collection: Slash in a custom edition, which has since sold out.
