The sixth annual South Delta Drum Festival will take place on Sunday, November 17, at the Genesis Theatre in Ladner.
This year’s festival promises an exciting showcase of local drumming talent while also supporting music education in the Lower Mainland. Unlike a typical concert, the event will feature clinicians who not only perform but also take time to pause and explain their techniques, offering insights into percussion skills and fostering a deeper understanding of the craft. It’s an opportunity for attendees to learn from experienced professionals who have spent years mastering their art.
The festival will feature renowned clinicians, including Eddie Trovato, Jason Overy, and Mike Michalkow.
The event has been organized by Klemm for several years. Last year, for the first time, Klemm also took on the role of clinician, sharing his expertise with attendees. In addition to his work as a drummer, Klemm is the founder of Klemm Drums and generously donates one of his snare drums each year for a fundraising raffle.
Catherine Campbell, a music teacher at Delta Secondary, said that students from the school will be involved in various aspects of the event. They will help run the concession stand, assist with lighting and stage setup, and attend the festival to expand their own knowledge of drumming.
Campbell also emphasized the importance of the festival’s fundraising efforts. All net proceeds from ticket sales and raffle ticket purchases will support the Delta Secondary band and music programs, providing vital resources for the school’s music education initiatives.
Doors open at 12:30 p.m. Tickets are priced at $20 and can be purchased at the door or online.
