Konstantin Ishkhanov, despite his non-classical background, has become a key figure in one of the most prestigious global violin competitions, Classic Violin Olympus. The competition, overseen by renowned violinist Pavel Vernikov, has become a platform for talented musicians worldwide. The winner of the 2025 edition will receive a 200,000 euro prize.
Ishkhanov, originally from Baku, Azerbaijan, started his career in technology before discovering his true passion for classical music in 2005. His entrepreneurial spirit led to the founding of initiatives like the Accordi Musicali Academy. His vision eventually culminated in the creation of Classic Violin Olympus, designed to bring a fresh, dynamic approach to the classical music scene.
In 2017, Ishkhanov created the “Classic Strings” competition, which evolved into Classic Violin Olympus. By 2018, it was a popular international contest aimed at showcasing rising violinists and cellists. Partnering with Pavel Vernikov in 2019, Ishkhanov expanded the competition to its current format, with Vernikov serving as artistic director. The event quickly gained prominence in the classical music world, focusing on creativity, technical ability, and artistry.
Ishkhanov and Vernikov redefined the traditional music competition model, aiming to engage both musicians and audiences. The competition’s prize pool totals 300,000 euros, with 200,000 euros awarded to the winner. Eliminating age, experience, and background restrictions, the contest is open to top string players globally.
The qualifying process includes six events in major cities: New York, Tokyo, Dubai, London, Rome, and Vienna. The top two performers from each city will compete in the final round, which includes six evaluation stages, such as ensemble and solo performances, orchestral pieces, and interviews.
The final round will take place in Dubai in April 2025, showcasing the city’s modernity and growth in the classical music world. Ten finalists, including those from the previous five events, will compete for the grand prize of 200,000 euros. All finalists receive a 10,000 euro prize, with the opportunity to collaborate with world-class jury members, offering valuable career opportunities.
Classic Violin Olympus, under Ishkhanov and Vernikov’s leadership, has become more than a competition. It’s a celebration of musical expression and talent. With no typical limits on age or experience, musicians from diverse backgrounds have a chance to shine. The 2025 finale is set to be a major event in the classical music world, with high stakes and wide international attention.
Ishkhanov and Vernikov are eager to see their hard work come to fruition. As Vernikov put it, “It was hard work, but a real pleasure to work with Ishkhanov on this ambitious project. I’m excited for what’s to come.”
