The French Order of Arts and Letters honors distinguished artists and creatives who have made significant contributions to the arts both in France and internationally. The award is granted in three ranks: Knight, Officer, and Commander.
Judith Ingolfsson, a renowned violinist, has been named Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters in recognition of her exceptional contributions to the music world, both through her extensive teaching and performance career.
Ingolfsson is currently a Professor of Violin at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University and has previously taught at the State University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart and the University of Colorado Boulder. She is also a frequent instructor at international music festivals and academies, offering masterclasses to aspiring musicians worldwide.
Her students have achieved significant success, with many winning top honors in competitions, securing positions with prestigious ensembles like the Konzerthaus Orchestra Berlin and the Komische Oper Berlin, and becoming members of renowned orchestras such as the Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig, Beethoven Orchester Bonn, and Bamberger Symphoniker.
As a performer, Ingolfsson has appeared as a soloist with distinguished orchestras, including the Philadelphia Orchestra, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, and Iceland Symphony Orchestra. She also performs as part of the Duo Ingolfsson-Stoupel with pianist Vladimir Stoupel, a collaboration that highlights lesser-known 20th-century works through their concerts and recordings.
In addition to her performances, Ingolfsson has served on juries for international competitions such as the Astral Artists National Auditions and the Concert Artists Guild Competition. Her extensive discography includes 14 acclaimed and award-winning recordings.
The Peabody Institute shared the news on Facebook, announcing, “Judith Ingolfsson (Violin Faculty) has been appointed to the prestigious rank ‘Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres’ by the Minister of Culture of France. This distinction is awarded to individuals who have made significant contributions to the cultural sphere, either through creativity or by supporting the dissemination of knowledge and works that enrich the global cultural heritage.”
