German cellist Till Schuler, currently a member of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra (BRSO) Academy, has been selected as the new solo cellist of the orchestra.
Born in Stuttgart in 2000, Schuler began his cello studies at the age of four under the guidance of Lisa Neßling. He later studied with Valentin Radutiu at HMt Rostock and continued his education at the HfMT Hamburg with Sebastian Klinger.
Schuler’s impressive career includes winning first prize at the 12th International Antonio Janigro Junior Competition in Zagreb, Croatia, in 2020. That same year, he was awarded scholarships from the German National Academic Foundation and the Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Hamburg e.V. association. In 2021, he won both first prize and the special prize of the jury chairman at the prestigious Gustav Mahler Cello Competition.
He plays an 1840 Georges Chanot cello, which has been on loan to him from the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben since February 2019.
Since May 2024, Schuler has been a member of the BRSO Academy, which offers 18 training spots for talented young musicians. The two-year program is designed to prepare them for professional orchestral careers.
