Guitar virtuoso Marty Friedman has released a new single, “Song for an Eternal Child,” from his latest solo album, Drama. The track comes with a visually striking music video, marking the second clip from the album.
Reflecting on the song, Marty shares:
“The second music video from my album Drama reflects on a feeling that resonates deeply with so many of us—the inescapable sense that we’ve never really grown up. The same innocent, wide-eyed child I was years ago, discovering everything about life, is exactly who I still am today, and it seems I’ll always be that way. Directed by Takumi Osera, the minimalistic imagery in this video might even change the way you see yourself.”
Friedman’s influence spans not only the global guitar scene but also Japanese pop culture, where his presence is both extraordinary and inspiring. In Drama, he revisits the atmospheric qualities of his acclaimed 1992 album Scenes, while introducing modern, exotic, and deeply emotional compositions.
From his groundbreaking work with Cacophony, alongside Jason Becker, to his pivotal role in Megadeth’s rise to fame, Friedman has cemented his legacy as a guitar icon with his distinctive melodic approach and innovative playing style.
Tracks like “Illumination” and “Mirage” showcase Friedman’s ability to transport listeners into immersive, emotionally charged landscapes. These pieces highlight his intricate melodies, groundbreaking arrangements, and heartfelt themes more profoundly than ever. Recorded in Italy, Drama combines vintage guitars with Friedman’s modern signature models, offering a dynamic and uplifting musical journey.
Friedman’s latest work continues to solidify his status as a trailblazer in the world of guitar and music, captivating fans and musicians alike.
