Brett Yang and Eddy Chen, the violinists behind the popular comedy duo TwoSet Violin, have announced their decision to step away from social media.

In an interview with The New York Times, the duo revealed their decision to end their journey as TwoSet Violin, citing the pressures and demands of producing over 100 videos annually.

“We’ve said all we wanted to say,” Yang shared. “For the last 11 years, it felt like I was carrying 50-kilo weights on my shoulders, constantly striving to please people and deliver our best.”

During a recent YouTube livestream, Brett and Eddy addressed fan questions, explaining their decision to move on. “There’s only so many reaction videos you can make,” they said. “After 11 years, it feels like the right time to transition to something new.”

In October 2024, the duo removed most of their YouTube videos from their channel, which boasts 4.32 million subscribers. They clarified that only their most meaningful content would remain. After fans expressed disappointment, they promised to restore the videos following the release of their farewell six-part video series.

“We’re sorry to upset those who wanted the videos back immediately,” they said. “But we decided to stick to our plan and finish our final six videos first.”

Over the past year, Brett and Eddy have been working on a six-part series inspired by composers Bach, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, and Mozart. The series, titled B²TSM (representing the composers’ initials), features a mix of comedy, music, and social commentary. It’s some of their most ambitious content to date, including a unique twist—rapping.

Drawing inspiration from K-pop, the duo created a dedicated Instagram account to document the project’s progress.

The series concludes with Forever Symphony, described by Chen as “our blood, sweat, and tears” and a heartfelt parting gift to their fans. Filmed across locations like Hong Kong, Thailand, and Austria, the project highlights the duo’s dedication to quality and creativity.

One video features the Hong Kong Ballet in a tribute to Tchaikovsky, while another, Papa Wolfgang Style, was filmed at Austria’s Eckartsau Palace, paying homage to Mozart.

Although Brett and Eddy are stepping back, they haven’t ruled out performing as B²TSM in the future. Introduced in 2022, the project remains a potential avenue for further creativity.

“It would be foolish to throw all this away,” Yang reflected. “After everything we’ve experienced, we’d like to see where this journey takes us.”

In their livestream, the duo expressed interest in working together on new initiatives, including educational projects like a potential music academy.

Over their career, TwoSet Violin collaborated with legendary violinists like Hilary Hahn, Ray Chen, Janine Jansen, and Maxim Vengerov. They also created the fictional character Ling Ling, a humorous embodiment of musical excellence who practices 40 hours a day.

The duo earned praise for their contributions to the musical community, with Hilary Hahn commenting, “Congrats on a job well done! Thank you for everything you’ve done for classical music—and not just classical! You guys rock.”

After a virtual tour in 2021 during the pandemic, Brett and Eddy embarked on a 39-city tour during the 2023–24 season, performing at renowned venues such as the Berlin Philharmonie. They hinted at the possibility of another tour in the 2025–26 season, encouraging fans to stay updated through their website.

On December 25, TwoSet Violin shared their final message on social media:

“Dear Ling Ling Wannabes,

This is a message we never thought we’d write so soon. After years of sharing our love for classical music, humor, and practicing 40 hours a day, the time has come to step back from social media.

Words cannot express how grateful we are for everything you’ve given us. You’ve laughed with us, cried with us, roasted us, and turned a simple dream into something bigger than we ever imagined.

Through all the ups and downs, you’ve been our inspiration and motivation. While we won’t be active on social media anymore, this isn’t goodbye. If you’d like to stay connected and hear about our future projects—maybe even a chance to perform together—sign up on our website.

Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for every moment you’ve shared with us. It’s been an honor to share this journey. Though the social media lights may dim, the music—and the bonds we’ve built—will play on.

P.S. GO PRACTICE.”

With their final series and farewell message, Brett and Eddy leave behind a legacy that blends music, humor, and education, ensuring that their impact on the classical music world will endure.
