In 2025, Todd Sucherman returns to playing Sonor drums, reconnecting with the iconic sound he fell in love with as a young musician.
In a newly released video, Sucherman shares his excitement, stating, “Coming back to Sonor is a very special thing for me, and I hope this short video explains how I feel. Thanks to everyone at Sonor worldwide!”
Sucherman has been the powerhouse behind the drums for the legendary rock band Styx since 1995, known for his seamless combination of musicianship and showmanship both on stage and in the studio.
“I just want to play the instrument that I love,” says Sucherman. “I’ve never forgotten the sound of the Sonor kit I had when I was a kid, playing music with my brothers. That sound has never left my heart. Coming back to Sonor and reliving that sound, the one that grabbed me when I was young, reignites that hunger and excitement.”
With his thoughtful and powerful drumming, Sucherman continues to inspire drummers around the world through his live performances, online presence, and commitment to teaching masterclasses on his off days from touring.
“We at Sonor are proud and honored to welcome Todd Sucherman back to his home behind a Sonor kit,” says Sonor US Brand Manager Jeff Mulvihill.
As Styx hits the road in January, Sucherman will be playing a brand-new Sonor SQ2 series kit. This stunning setup features Heavy Beech shells finished in African Marble High-Gloss Veneer, complete with 24K gold fittings, offering both an exceptional look and sound.
Sucherman previously shared his personal connection to Sonor drums, stating, “I have returned home to Sonor drums in 2025. My first recording studio experience at age nine was on a Sonor kit, and I played this magnificent brand until I was thirty. I’m thrilled to return to the drums of my youth, which are now the drums of my future. I find myself excited beyond comprehension to create music on these astonishing, exquisitely made instruments that are truly breathtaking and inspiring to play.”
He expressed his gratitude to those who supported his journey: “I wish to thank Jerry Goldenson, Jeff Mulvihill, Henry Go, and the whole team in the USA, as well as Nico Lang, Christian Figgen, Jannis Köckmann, and the entire team in Germany. Their collective enthusiasm, expertise, help, and support were immeasurable. Thanks also to Mark Eldridge, Steele Turkington, Jim Feck, Ronn Dunnett, and Mark Petrocelli for their contributions to the studio and live sets.”
Looking ahead, Sucherman is excited for the future: “I look forward to all that will musically happen in 2025 and beyond as we celebrate Sonor’s 150th anniversary. Onward we go!”
