In a serendipitous turn of events, four of Australia’s most internationally renowned guitarists—Andrew Blanch, Vladimir Gorbach, and brothers Slava and Leonard Grigoryan—have united to form the Australian Guitar Quartet. Their recent performances, which captivated sell-out audiences, showcased their extraordinary virtuosity and genre-defying skills.
Each member of the quartet is a celebrated composer, arranger, and champion of Australian music. They share a commitment to exceptional musicianship and the unique power of ensemble performance, where the collective sound elevates the individual contributions. Together, the Australian Guitar Quartet seamlessly merges the precision of classical guitar with the expressive energy of contemporary global music.
Their concert program takes listeners on a captivating journey through diverse musical landscapes, spanning from the intricate brilliance of Bach to the vibrant rhythms of Latin America. Audiences will experience a rich blend of classical, jazz, tango, and Brazilian sounds.
The program features Astor Piazzolla’s Fuga y Misterio, which melds classical form with the fiery passion of tango; Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 6, offering an elegant Baroque experience; and selections from Bizet’s Carmen Suite, bringing the drama and sensuality of opera to life. The quartet also explores modern jazz with Pat Metheny’s Road to the Sun, alongside the evocative Brazilian sounds of Luiz Bonfá’s Manhã de Carnaval and Paulo Bellinati’s A Furiosa.
Bach, Bossa, and Beyond celebrates the fusion of tradition and innovation, pushing the boundaries of collective sound and showcasing the guitar’s profound power in this extraordinary musical performance.
