Yasmin Williams has earned a reputation for pushing the limits of solo fingerstyle guitar, blending progressive techniques with original compositions that grow from traditional folk and roots influences. On her latest album, Acadia, Williams takes her unique sound to new heights, while fostering a sense of collaboration with fellow artists such as Dom Flemons, Kaki King, Aoife O’Donovan, and saxophonist Immanuel Wilkins.
In this solo performance, recorded at Acoustic Guitar HQ in San Anselmo, California, Williams showcases two tracks from Acadia—“Cliffwalk” and “Hummingbird”—and wraps up with an old favorite, “Juvenescence” from her 2021 album, Urban Driftwood. Her fingerstyle technique is far from just fast playing across the fretboard; it’s dynamic, vibrant, and occasionally exhilarating.
During the session, Williams also shares her creative process behind Acadia and introduces her one-of-a-kind Skytop Grand Concert guitar, describing it as “an incredible instrument … I wouldn’t trade it for anything!”
