Brad Delson, guitarist for Linkin Park, remains a vital part of the band’s resurgence, but his contributions will be limited to studio recordings rather than live performances.
In a recent interview with Guitar World, Delson, 47, shared his decision to focus solely on the band’s studio work, explaining that it was a matter of each member finding where they thrived the most.
“For me, and I guess for all the guys, the past few years gave us the chance to really reflect on the band—what energizes us, where we feel most fulfilled, and where we thrive,” Delson said. “I really thrive in the studio. I love creating new music, which is why I decided to focus my energy on that.”
Linkin Park made their return in September 2024 with their first album since the death of co-vocalist Chester Bennington in 2017. The album, titled From Zero, features Emily Armstrong of Dead Sara as a co-vocalist and Colin Brittain on drums, replacing the band’s longtime drummer Rob Bourdon. While Delson plays guitar on all of the album’s tracks and was actively involved in the recording, Alex Feder has been chosen to perform the guitar parts live.
Co-vocalist and guitarist Mike Shinoda further explained Delson’s decision during an interview on The Zach Sang Show in November. “Brad doesn’t love the touring and live show lifestyle,” Shinoda said. “So, he’s our guitarist, but he’s not playing live. He found a guy named Alex, who’s an incredible guitarist, and they get along great. Brad chose Alex to play his parts on stage.”
