by Madonna

Jonathan Hultén’s highly anticipated new album, Eyes Of The Living Night, has officially been released. Hailed as his most impressive solo work to date, the album builds upon the success of his acclaimed 2020 debut, Chants From Another Place. To mark the occasion, Hultén has unveiled a mesmerizing music video for the track “Riverflame,” filmed in Kollerud, Sweden, by Jakob Johansson of @kollerudproductions.

Reflecting on the meaning behind “Riverflame,” Hultén shared:

“While some things appear so strong and unchanging that they seem eternal, even the most steadfast elements can vanish without warning. The pain of loss and uncertainty is something many of us face, and it can shake our confidence and hope. Everything is subject to change, swept along by the relentless current of time.

‘Riverflame’ represents that small, enduring fire within us—the spark of inspiration that persists despite the passing of time and space. Rather than viewing transience with sorrow, this flame encourages us to embrace life fully, to dance, create, and dream while we still have the chance. May we all find peace in life’s impermanence.”

Eyes Of The Living Night was recorded at Stockholm’s Chanting Studios and co-produced with Ola Ersfjord (Lady Blackbird, Tribulation, Monolord). The album showcases Hultén’s unique fusion of folk, rock, and pop, drawing inspiration from artists like Bert Jansch, John Martyn, and Nick Drake, alongside contemporaries such as Anna Ternheim, Chelsea Wolfe, and Hexvessel.

A deeply introspective work, Eyes Of The Living Night blends raw emotion with an ethereal, expansive sound. Merging elements of rock, synth-pop, blues, and folk, Hultén crafts a sonic journey he describes as “Ambient Dream-grunge.”

Jonathan Hultén is currently on his first North American solo tour, supporting UK metal band Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats.
