Long-standing Drum Makers Continue to Shape Music History

by Madonna

Zildjian, the world-renowned cymbal maker based in Norwell, Massachusetts, has made a bold move into the electronic drum kit market after over 400 years of excellence in cymbal manufacturing. Their new electronic drum kit offers authentic cymbals that replicate the feel of a classic acoustic setup. Designed with convenience in mind, the Zildjian e-kit is ideal for apartment living, as well as for families, whether it’s parents with children or children with parents! The kit can be played through headphones or an amplifier, and drummers can also update their sound library with new options available on Zildjian’s official website.

Meanwhile, Noble & Cooley, the oldest drum company in the U.S. and one of the oldest globally, continues to produce fine instruments in Granville, Massachusetts. With an annual output of 500 snare drums and 100 drum kits, the company’s storied legacy includes a prestigious client list featuring Phil Collins and Phish. However, a mystery lingers over this historic company: the fate of the drum it once made for Abraham Lincoln. According to general manager Luke Garro, the drum was used during Lincoln’s 1860 campaign rallies and was considered one of the most beautiful drums ever crafted. With a drumhead bearing a likeness of “Honest Abe,” this valuable artifact has been missing for over a century.

“It would close a chapter that’s been open for over a hundred years now,” Garro said, expressing hope that the treasured drum might still be out there, possibly hidden in an attic or passed down through generations.
