Arthur Hanlon and Ángela Aguilar have reimagined a classic huapango with a unique piano twist. On Thursday, the renowned pianist and Mexican singer teamed up for “Bala Perdida”, a captivating song that blends genres and highlights Aguilar’s stunning vocals.
“I love exploring contrasts on the piano, and ‘Bala Perdida’ captures that perfectly,” Hanlon shared in a press release. “The song is based on huapango, a Mexican rhythm I deeply admire for its elegance, soul, and raw emotion. Ángela’s vocal technique is impeccable, and from the moment we recorded together, the chemistry between us was undeniable.”
The pair, who first met at Billboard’s Latin Women in Music event last June, also released a music video for the track. The video features Hanlon playing his grand piano in the desert, with Aguilar standing beside him, passionately delivering the song’s poignant lyrics.
Hanlon and Aguilar will perform the collaboration at Premio Lo Nuestro on Thursday night. The song will also appear on Hanlon’s upcoming album, slated for release in April, which will include collaborations with various artists.
“This piece is a masterpiece, and I’m incredibly proud to be part of it,” Aguilar expressed. “It’s a tribute to great songs — songs that have deep meaning in both music and lyrics. My dad always says there are only two types of music: good and bad. And this song is definitely very, very good.”
This new collaboration with Aguilar follows Hanlon’s recent work, including “Egoísta” with Ana Bárbara in November and “Repetimos” with Yotuel and Darrell in September. Aguilar, in turn, kicked off 2025 with a banda duet with Yuri on her hit “Maldita Primavera” and released “Abrázame” with Felipe Botello y El Sonoro Rugir last August.
