Gibson has teamed up with Warren Haynes to introduce the Warren Haynes Les Paul Standard, a guitar that combines the iconic 50s-era Les Paul design with modern features. This new model includes P-90 DC pickups and a 15 dB boost, offering musicians enhanced functionality while maintaining the traditional aesthetic of the classic Les Paul.
Warren Haynes, a Grammy Award-winning artist renowned for his contributions to rock, blues, and Americana music, expressed his excitement about the collaboration. “I’ve always been a Gibson guy—I got hooked on that sound as a teenager and have been playing them ever since,” Haynes shared. “I’m honored to be partnering with Gibson to release my Signature Les Paul Standard. I’m really loving the hum-free P-90s, and the boost provides even more tonal options. I’m excited that other guitar players will now have the chance to own and play one too.”
Haynes, known for his signature style that blends genres effortlessly, has made his mark in the music world through his work with the Allman Brothers Band, as the founder of Gov’t Mule, and as a solo artist. He has also become a respected figure in the music community for his influence on the guitar-playing world, offering instructional content to budding musicians. Over the years, Haynes has favored several Gibson models, including his cherished ’61 ES-335™.
The Warren Haynes Les Paul Standard is crafted to Haynes’s specifications, featuring a mahogany body with a plain maple cap, a 60s Cherry finish, and a mahogany neck with a chunky 50s vintage profile, reminiscent of his favorite Les Pauls. The guitar also includes a rosewood fretboard with acrylic trapezoid inlays and 22 medium jumbo frets. The P-90 DC pickups are designed to deliver hum-free performance while maintaining the traditional sonic nuances of classic P-90 pickups. Additionally, a 15 dB boost is activated via a mini toggle switch, enhancing the tonal options available to the player. A quick-access battery compartment is mounted into the control cover on the rear, and if the battery dies, the guitar continues to function by simply flipping the mini toggle switch to the off position.
Blending the timeless look and feel of a 50s-era Les Paul with modern features like hum-free P-90 DC pickups and an onboard boost, the Warren Haynes Les Paul Standard is a perfect choice for guitarists who, like Haynes, seek both traditional aesthetics and contemporary functionality in one remarkable instrument.
In addition to the guitar’s release, Warren Haynes has been making waves with his latest album, Million Voices Whisper. Released last fall via Fantasy Records, this is his fourth solo album and his first in nearly a decade. The album features an 11-song set of soulful blues-rock, with collaborations from his all-star band, including John Medeski on keyboards, Terence Higgins on drums, and Kevin Scott on bass. Guest appearances from Derek Trucks, Lukas Nelson, and Jamey Johnson also feature on several tracks. Million Voices Whisper addresses themes of personal and global reflection, with standout tracks like “These Changes” and “Go Down Swinging,” both co-written with Trucks and Johnson.
Haynes’s impassioned vocals and guitar skills shine throughout the album, which has resonated strongly with fans, with the single “This Life As We Know It” reaching the Top 15 on the Americana singles chart and Top 40 on Triple A radio. The deluxe CD version also includes bonus tracks, such as a new version of “Back Where I Started” and a cover of the CSNY classic “Find The Cost of Freedom.” Million Voices Whisper showcases Warren Haynes’s unparalleled artistry and his ability to blend the worlds of blues and rock with heart and soul.
