A captivating video from the 2025 Kolkata International Drum Festival showcases a remarkable performance by a group of children. What makes this performance stand out? The children sang Bengali nursery rhymes while playing instruments crafted entirely from household waste.
The video, shared by Megdut Roy Chowdhury on Instagram, offers a glimpse into this unique performance.
“Children from local communities singing Bengali nursery rhymes and playing instruments made from household waste,” the post’s caption reads.
The group is trained by musician Sanjay Mandal, and social media users quickly recognized him. “Sanjay Mandal and his team have been around for over a decade. They were finalists on India’s Got Talent in 2009/2010 and have performed multiple times on Zee Bangla Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. There’s even a film about them called ‘Tengra Blues,'” one user shared.
Many were left amazed by the children’s creativity. “Ladies and gentlemen, this is the Bengal we know: artistic legends in their truest form,” commented one viewer, while another added, “Kolkata’s raw talent? Pure, unfiltered magic.”
This performance beautifully demonstrates that music requires nothing more than passion and, perhaps, a few discarded items creatively repurposed.
