The streets of West Cumbria were filled with the energetic rhythms of samba as Drum Nation, a well-known community percussion group, kicked off an exciting tour across the region.
On Saturday, March 15, the group brought their beats to Cockermouth, Whitehaven, and Workington, spreading the infectious joy of drumming while encouraging new members to join their upcoming project.
The tour was part of an effort to launch Drum Nation West, a new samba band set to begin in April.
Drum Nation has become famous for uniting people through the power of percussion, and their latest initiative is set to expand this experience to the West Cumbrian communities.
The tour highlighted the inclusiveness of samba drumming, showing that anyone – no matter their musical background – can get involved, learn, and be part of something truly exhilarating.
The performances started in Cockermouth, where shoppers and passers-by enjoyed a lively display of rhythmic precision and carnival vibes.
Next, the group moved on to Whitehaven, where the historic harbour area served as the perfect setting for their beats. The tour wrapped up in Workington, drawing a crowd eager to find out how they could participate.
Victoria Tipping, leader of Drum Nation West, shared her excitement: “We were absolutely thrilled with the response from the people of West Cumbria. Samba is all about energy, inclusivity, and community, and it was amazing to see so many people dancing along and showing interest in joining Drum Nation West.”
“This is just the beginning, and we can’t wait to start building a vibrant drumming community here.”
Drum Nation West will officially launch in April, offering regular workshops and rehearsals for anyone eager to pick up the sticks and join the “rhythm revolution.”
