On Wednesday night, Lainey Wilson had the honor of performing at the Ryman Auditorium with one of her idols’ guitars: Hank Williams’ iconic instrument.
As one of the newest members of the Grand Ole Opry, Wilson took part in the star-studded three-hour concert special, “Opry 100: A Live Celebration,” which aired on NBC.
The event featured live performances from Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry House and the Ryman Auditorium, celebrating the legendary radio show’s 100th anniversary.
For the night’s first Ryman performance, Wilson joined singer-songwriter Marty Stuart to pay tribute to country music legend Hank Williams, known for hits like “Hey, Good Lookin'” and “I’m So Lonesome I Could Die.”
In a touching surprise, Stuart handed Wilson one of Williams’ guitars, which she played alongside him as they performed his 1948 hit “Lonesome Highway.”
After the heartfelt tribute to Williams, who passed away in 1953, Wilson couldn’t quite let go of the guitar.
“Do I gotta give this thing back now?” she joked with Stuart.
However, she didn’t have to part with it just yet.
Stuart and Wilson then teamed up for a duet of Wilson’s 2021 song “Things A Man Oughta Know,” blending two beloved country classics on the historic Ryman stage as part of the monumental celebration.
