Matt Sorum, former drummer of Guns N’ Roses, recently posted a new photo of himself behind a drum kit on Instagram, stirring rumors about a possible reunion. The post came shortly after the band announced their split with current drummer Frank Ferrer.
“Drums and music have taken me around the world!!” Sorum captioned the photo. Fans quickly flooded the comments with speculation, with one saying, “You are the new Guns drummer…I bet my money.” Another fan wrote, “The mystery deepens… GN’R posts about their drummer leaving, and Matt shares a picture of himself on the drums. Please let it be true!” it. Slash, what are you waiting for? Just call him.”
Sorum’s history with the band, along with his recent activities, provides context for the speculation.
Blabbermouth reported that Sorum was not part of Guns N’ Roses’ 2016 reunion, which saw the return of Slash and Duff McKagan but did not include Sorum. Despite this, Sorum has made peace with his exclusion and focused on personal growth and musical exploration.
Alternative Nation highlighted Sorum’s ongoing musical ventures, including his work with Billy Gibbons’ solo band and his leadership of the rock collective, Kings of Chaos. These projects demonstrate Sorum’s broad musical range beyond his Guns N’ Roses days.
Antimusic also noted that the band had extended an invitation for Sorum to make a guest appearance during their reunion tour. However, Sorum declined, feeling that a brief guest spot did not align with his artistic vision or career goals.
