Jack White’s reputation as a guitar virtuoso in the alt-rock world is well established, so receiving his endorsement is a significant honor. Recently, White gifted one of his signature guitars to his “new favorite guitar player,” a member of the Japanese punk band Otoboke Beaver.
Formed in 2009, the all-female Otoboke Beaver band consists of Accorinrin on vocals, Hirochan on bass, Kahokiss on drums, and Yoyoyoshie on guitar. Yoyoyoshie received special recognition from White when he gifted her his new Triplecaster guitar. Designed in collaboration with Fender, the Triplecaster is a heavily modified, three-pronged model inspired by the popular Telecaster design. The guitar was released last year, and Jack White’s official Instagram celebrated the gift.
“At Fender Guitars in Tokyo, Jack White gives a gift of a brand new Triplecaster guitar that he designed to his new favorite guitar player [Yoyoyoshie] from Otoboke Beaver!” the caption read. Eddie Vedder also joined in to help Yoyoyoshie break in the new guitar strap, “which every guitar player knows requires power tools to break the leather in the first time!”
White had previously praised Yoyoyoshie in an Instagram post last year, calling her his “new favorite guitar player.” “If you’re coming up against an ambush, you want her in your battalion,” White wrote, accompanied by a photo of him with Yoyoyoshie and Accorinrin at his Third Man Records headquarters in Nashville.
Fans of Jack White were excited to see the two musicians together. “This band is super rad! Their drummer is insane!” commented one Otoboke Beaver fan, also showing love for other band members.
Otoboke Beaver is known for its loud, brash sound, and, as Rolling Stone noted in 2023, an “idiosyncratic wrath and sarcasm” in their performances. Yoyoyoshie’s wild crowd-surfing antics have even gotten the band banned from Instagram multiple times. But in true punk fashion, that’s just part of the rebellious spirit. Having been in the music scene for over 15 years, Otoboke Beaver continues to carve out space in a male-dominated genre, bringing their vibrant, punk-infused energy to the forefront.
