The Upper Hutt Concert Grand Piano Trust has organized a variety of events in support of World Piano Day, which will be celebrated on Saturday, March 29, 2025.

Trust Chair Paul Lambert proudly declares that Upper Hutt is the first city in New Zealand to officially recognize this global event. World Piano Day, an annual celebration founded by a group of like-minded individuals, is held on the 88th day of the year to correspond with the 88 keys on a piano.

Since its inception in 2015, World Piano Day has grown in popularity and is now celebrated worldwide. The event sparks special concerts both onstage and online, alongside radio shows, podcasts, and curated playlists. Lambert shares that he played a key role in helping Summerset at the Course in Trentham become the first retirement village in New Zealand to support World Piano Day. To mark the occasion, a free concert will be held by Upper Hutt Concert Piano Trust member Tim Thorpe at 1 pm on Saturday, March 29, at the village. Additionally, a short video showcasing the process of building a Steinway Concert Grand Piano will be featured on the Piano Day website. The Trust owns a Steinway Concert D Grand Piano, which is housed at the Whirinaki Whare Taonga in Upper Hutt.
