Gibson has announced the highly anticipated return of the Tobias bass guitars with the launch of the all-new Tobias Original Collection. Revered by bass players for nearly fifty years, the collection is set to make waves in the music world once again.
Designed to deliver unparalleled articulation, deep low-end punch, and exceptional comfort, the Tobias Original Collection features six distinct models, available in both four and five-string options. Each model comes in right and left-handed versions, providing accessibility for all players. The collection includes the Classic, Killer B, and Growler models, each equipped with top-tier hardware from Babicz and Gotoh, active electronics from Bartolini, and the iconic Tobias asymmetrical neck design. Crafted from premium tonewoods, these bass guitars promise exceptional playability and sound.
Bass enthusiasts worldwide have eagerly awaited the return of authentic, high-end Tobias basses, and Gibson has responded to the demand. The new Tobias basses combine the stunning aesthetic of exotic woods—such as quilted maple, royal paulownia, purpleheart, sapele, walnut, ebony, and wenge—with the distinct feel of the renowned Tobias Asym asymmetrical neck. The carefully contoured bodies ensure both visual appeal and a comfortable playing experience. However, what truly sets these instruments apart is their sonic versatility, offering modern bass players the tonal flexibility they need for various styles.
With premium Bartolini® pickups and preamps, along with the luxurious resonance of exotic hardwoods, Tobias basses are engineered to meet the demands of today’s bassists. Whether it’s the look, feel, or sound, these basses deliver everything a player could desire.
Aljon Go, Product Development Manager for Tobias, Epiphone, and Kramer, shares his excitement: “I’m thrilled to release Tobias basses, emphasizing the use of exotic woods, ergonomics, and authenticity to the original Tobias basses. This revival is a dream come true, blending modern craftsmanship with the timeless essence of Tobias.”
Andrew Ladner, Brand Manager for Epiphone and Kramer, also expressed his enthusiasm: “It’s amazing to see this icon of the bass world return. These models are truly a bass player’s bass, and true to the DNA that makes Tobias world-class—the ace up the sleeve of bass players around the globe since 1978. Today’s players can find that unique voice and feel that only Tobias can offer.”
The Tobias Original Collection is now available for purchase worldwide through Gibson.com, Gibson Garage locations, and authorized Gibson dealers.
