Pete Townshend of The Who has teamed up with rising Dutch singer-songwriter Inge Lamboo for a new collaboration, contributing a blues-infused guitar solo to her latest track, “Call Out Your Name.” The song, which blends melodic alt-pop with jazz influences, was released as a digital single on Friday, March 28.
In a post shared on Lamboo’s social media, Townshend expressed his admiration for the young artist’s talent. He wrote, “It was an honor to be asked to play guitar on one of Inge Lamboo’s new tracks. I follow her work on Instagram and she is making terrific Indie-style music with some really smart twists. The guitar work on her tracks is perfectly wonderful without me, so I decided to throw some mud at the wall—in the old ’60s style, and amazingly it worked. Inge is a special talent, we should ALL look out for her.”
“Call Out Your Name” will be featured on Lamboo’s upcoming album, This Is How the Future Sounds, set for release on May 30. Additionally, the track will be available as a 7-inch vinyl single starting April 12, as part of the 2025 Record Store Day event in the Netherlands.
Lamboo shared the story behind her collaboration with Townshend, revealing that he initially reached out to her after discovering her music on Instagram. “You’re really good,” his message read. “Looking forward to more.” Encouraged by the compliment, Lamboo nervously reached out to Townshend, asking him to contribute to one of her tracks.
According to Lamboo, after sending her song “Call Out Your Name” to Townshend, she received his response just two weeks later, with his unmistakable guitar solo adding a powerful touch to the track. “His playing is very recognizable, rhythmic, and full of attitude,” Lamboo said. “Pete is on the left, and Inge is on the right. She also points out the Morse code he hides in his guitar playing.”
On March 28, Lamboo shared her excitement about the song’s release, posting on her social media, “I’ve never felt as happy as today!! ‘Call Out Your Name’ [featuring] Pete Townshend is now available to listen to on your favorite streaming platform. What a ride so far – and it’s just the beginning… :)”
She also thanked Townshend, saying, “Pete, thank you for this chance, your amazing playing, your perspective on the song, and the fun and inspiring conversation. I’m so thankful, happy, proud and in love with this song and collaboration. A dream come true.”
