Tom Morello, the legendary guitarist known for his work with Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave, has earned recognition not only for his musicianship but also for his deep passion for rock and metal. An avid fan and cultural advocate of the genre, Morello has been vocal about the need for greater recognition of deserving bands and artists.
Now, Morello is stepping into a pivotal role as the curator for Black Sabbath’s final concert featuring Ozzy Osbourne. In an interview with Australian Musician, Morello shared how this incredible opportunity came to him. He recalled a surprising meeting with Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, where they extended the invitation to help shape the historic event.
“We had a big meeting about that earlier today. It came about because Ozzy and Sharon asked me to do — they surprised me one day and said, ‘There’s gonna be one more Black Sabbath show, all four original members, the last-ever Ozzy Osbourne show. We wanna have a big day of celebration and will you help curate it?’ And I was like, ‘Well, that’s crazy. But yes, of course,’” Morello recalled.
While discussing the upcoming show, Morello teased fans with hints of some unexpected star-studded appearances.
“Where it’s at now… First of all, when we first sat down, we have a very, very simple goal, and that’s to make this the greatest day in the history of heavy metal. And to that end, you’ve probably seen the listed setlist,” Morello stated.
“And let me tell you, there are some huge superstars who are going to be surprises on that day too. So, the idea is to really acknowledge the importance of that band in a way that the whole world will forever know it.”
Fans can expect a monumental celebration as Black Sabbath’s legacy is honored in what promises to be one of the most iconic heavy metal events in history.
