Epinal International Piano Competition Crowns 2025 Winners

Founded in 1970 by Madame Suzanne Chevalier, the prestigious Epinal International Piano Competition is held biennially and welcomes international pianists aged 16 to 30.

For the 2025 edition, Japanese pianist Yuya Nishimoto claimed the First Grand Prize along with a cash award of €10,000 and the Contemporary Music Prize. Aidan Mikdad from Holland secured second place, receiving €4,000 along with the French Music Prize.

The third-place award of €2,000, along with the JMF Prize for the best French contestant, was presented to Mathis Cathignol. In fourth place, Spanish pianist Eugenia Sanchez Duran won €1,000 and was also honored with the Audience Prize. The Chopin Etude Prize was awarded to Daniils from Latvia.

Beyond monetary awards, the laureates will gain performance opportunities with renowned organizations, including Concerts Classiques d’Epinal, Rencontres Internationales de Musique de Mirecourt, Musique Espérance Saint-Dié, and others.

Among the semi-finalists were talented musicians such as Gyutae Ha (South Korea), Harrison Herman (Australia), Linda Lee (South Korea), and Piotr Pawlak (Poland).

The 2025 jury, chaired by Akiko Ebi, included esteemed members Hervé Billaut, Isabelle Dubuis, Konrad Elser, Sunghoon Hwang, Alvaro Teixeira Lopes, and Dina Yoffe. The preselection jury featured Olivier Moulin (committee president), Konrad Elser, and Sunghoon Hwang.
