Pink Talking Fish Brings Three Guitarists Together on One Guitar for a Memorable Jam in Buffalo

by Madonna

On Sunday night at Buffalo Iron Works in New York, Pink Talking Fish brought a unique twist to their performance by inviting three guitarists from Dogs In A Pile and Aqueous to join them on stage—and they all shared one guitar.

After performing Wish You Were Here in its entirety during the first set, the band transitioned to more Talking Heads and Phish-inspired material in the second half. During a rendition of Talking Heads’ “Slippery People,” Pink Talking Fish invited Brian Murray and Jimmy Law from Dogs In A Pile, along with Mike Gantzer from Aqueous. While it wasn’t surprising to see these musicians together, especially after their recent jam the night before for a cover of Steely Dan’s “Green Earrings,” what made this moment truly stand out was that all three guitarists showed up without instruments. Thankfully, PTF guitarist Cal Kehoe, displaying the true spirit of sharing, offered up his own guitar for the jam session.

The impromptu collaboration between Pink Talking Fish, Dogs In A Pile, and Aqueous brought to mind the famous Phish show from July 21, 1997, in Virginia Beach, where multiple musicians played different instruments in a show of camaraderie. This event wasn’t just about the music; it was a celebration of the close-knit musical community and the fans’ enthusiastic support for such spontaneous moments that make each show unforgettable.

Pink Talking Fish’s tour continues with a pair of upcoming performances in New Hampshire. The band also recently announced new summer tour dates across the Northeast, Midwest, and Western U.S. Meanwhile, Dogs In A Pile is touring throughout the Midwest, with stops in Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Indiana. Tickets and tour dates are available on the websites of Pink Talking Fish and Dogs In A Pile. Aqueous, however, has been on an indefinite hiatus since the summer of 2023.
