The historic streets of Oxford came alive on Sunday as hundreds joined a high-energy drum and bass bike rave led by cycling DJ Dom Whiting. Known as the DJ On The Bike, Whiting brought his mobile party through the city, drawing enthusiastic crowds of adults and children riding bicycles, scooters, rollerblades, skateboards, and even those dancing on foot.
Beginning at 14:00 BST outside the Clarendon Building on Broad Street, the event quickly grew into a lively procession. Whiting, from High Wycombe, performed on a custom-built bike outfitted with speakers and DJ decks. Ahead of the event, he shared on Facebook that Oxford was one of the original cities where his raves started, making this return a special one.
Whiting originally launched his On The Bike raves during the Covid-19 lockdowns as a creative way to share music and energy in public spaces. Since then, his following has grown to more than 800,000 across social media platforms, and his bike raves have become must-see events in cities across the UK and beyond.
Among the many participants was Thomas Maxwell, who joined the rave on a scooter. He described the experience as “hectic, electric and so much fun,” and expressed surprise at the size of the crowd. He praised Whiting’s DJ skills and said he was already looking forward to attending the next event. Hearing drum and bass echo through Oxford’s normally serene streets, Maxwell noted, created a striking and exciting contrast.
Also taking part were Vikky Edwards and Darryl Hull, who traveled from Leamington Spa in Warwickshire. It was their first time riding along with Whiting, and they were thrilled by the vibrant energy. Edwards called the experience “really cool,” while Hull, a devoted fan of drum and bass music, appreciated the opportunity to immerse himself in the sound he loves.
The Oxford edition of Whiting’s rave added another memorable chapter to his growing list of successful events, once again proving that music, movement, and community can turn an ordinary afternoon into something extraordinary.
