Loot Audio has officially released Balvi Cello, a new Kontakt instrument library created by developer David Forner. Designed with some of the most expressive cello performances in mind, Balvi Cello aims to deliver a deeply emotional playing experience. Its core objective is clear: to offer rich, powerful vibrato and the fine-tuned legato details required to capture the nuances of expressive string music.
To achieve this, Balvi Cello includes multiple types of legato transitions, a variety of attack and sustain articulations, and, of course, bow return samples for greater realism.
One of the standout technical decisions behind the library is its use of a single dynamic layer system. This approach eliminates phase issues and tonal blurring that can often arise from crossfading between multiple velocity layers—particularly in solo instruments. Instead, Balvi Cello allows users to explore a wide range of expressive possibilities by blending its numerous sustain articulations, enabling a high level of emotional and dynamic control.
Articulations are triggered based on velocity levels—0, 41, and 91—making it easy to access different attacks and legato sustains depending on your playing style.
In addition to standard legato transitions, Balvi Cello also features a set of fast transitions, extending up to a major second in interval. These are especially useful for playing scales or rapid passages that require increased speed and fluidity.
Priced at $109 USD, Balvi Cello is currently available at an introductory offer of $65.40 USD.
