Drums, dance, and vibrant African traditions will take over Point Cook this Saturday as the highly anticipated Africa Festival returns, promising an unforgettable day of cultural celebration, community spirit, and sensory delights.
Whether you’re tasting injera for the first time, trying your hand at West African drumming, or browsing handmade crafts by local artisans, the Africa Festival offers a fresh discovery for everyone. Hosted by Junubi Wyndham, this free event invites people of all backgrounds to immerse themselves in the energy and richness of African heritage.
The festival is a visual and auditory feast, with the sound of beating drums, the colorful elegance of traditional dress, and the aroma of authentic African cuisine creating an immersive experience. Attendees will witness performances that range from ancestral storytelling through dance to soulful music that touches the heart.
Poly Kiyaga, Junubi Wyndham’s program manager, emphasized the importance of connection and cultural appreciation.
“In a world where division can often dominate the headlines, the Africa Festival is a living, breathing reminder of the power of cultural exchange to build bridges between communities,” Mr. Kiyaga said.
He added that while the event brings a taste of Africa to Wyndham, its deeper mission is to create a space where everyone feels welcome and seen.
“That’s what community is all about,” Mr. Kiyaga stated.
Now in its third year, the Africa Festival is quickly establishing itself as a cherished tradition within Wyndham’s cultural calendar. As the city becomes increasingly diverse, events like this highlight the strength that comes from celebrating each other’s backgrounds.
The Africa Festival is scheduled to run from 2 PM to 9 PM at the Point Cook Town Centre and forms part of Kaleidoscope 2025, a broader celebration of multiculturalism in the region.
