Megadeth’s new guitarist Teemu Mäntysaari has shed light on the band’s future plans, confirming that work on a new album is underway and promising a more collaborative creative process than in the past.
“After this tour, we’re gonna take a little break,” Mäntysaari explained in a recent interview. “We’ve been planning on making a new Megadeth album.”
Unlike previous albums that were heavily led by frontman Dave Mustaine, Mäntysaari revealed that all members of the band will now have input. This marks a significant shift in the band’s creative dynamics.
“That’s gonna be really exciting,” he added. “I’ve been gathering some riff ideas, and we’ve been talking with the band that everybody could contribute ideas. So that’s gonna be really interesting. I’m looking forward to recording the album next year.”
Mäntysaari joined the legendary metal group following the departure of guitarist Kiko Loureiro in September 2023. His addition coincides with Megadeth adopting a more inclusive approach to songwriting. Every member is actively participating in shaping the new material.
Digital Music News confirmed that the band has selected Nashville as the recording site for their upcoming project. The aim is to complete what will be Megadeth’s 17th studio album sometime next year.
Meanwhile, MetalSucks highlighted the return of bassist James LoMenzo, who last recorded with the band on 2009’s Endgame. His renewed presence adds another layer of excitement and continuity to the lineup.
Currently, each band member is gathering individual riff ideas. Instead of coming to the studio with fully finished songs, the group plans to merge their creative pieces together during the recording process—signaling a true team effort in the making of this new chapter in Megadeth’s legacy.
