Carlos Santana, the iconic guitarist known for his decades-spanning music career, was forced to postpone his San Antonio concert on April 22 due to a sudden medical emergency before the show.
According to a statement shared with TMZ by Santana’s representative, the incident occurred during sound check when the 77-year-old musician experienced what is believed to be dehydration. Emergency responders arrived on the scene around 5 p.m. local time, and Santana was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for evaluation.
This is not the first time Santana has experienced health complications related to dehydration. In a similar incident two years ago, the musician collapsed during a performance, with his team attributing it to heat exhaustion and dehydration.
Footage obtained by TMZ shows staff members shielding Santana with umbrellas to ensure his privacy as he was moved to the ambulance. The San Antonio Fire Department confirmed they were responding to a report of an elderly male fainting at the venue.
Following his hospital visit, Santana’s representatives confirmed that he is recovering well and remains in good spirits. He expressed enthusiasm about returning to San Antonio once the concert is rescheduled.
Santana is currently slated to perform in Sugar Land, Texas, on April 23. There has been no official announcement regarding whether that performance will also be postponed.
Earlier this year, Santana also delayed his Las Vegas residency after suffering a fall that required surgery on one of his fingers. The injury temporarily sidelined him from performing as he recovered over a six-week period.
