On April 26th, nü-metal giants Limp Bizkit teamed up with thrash metal legends Metallica for the first of six shows they’ll share this summer. Limp Bizkit is just one of several bands set to open for Metallica during their extensive tour, alongside notable acts like Pantera, Suicidal Tendencies, and Ice Nine Kills.
While Metallica and Limp Bizkit previously toured together in a more traditional format during 2003’s Summer Sanitarium Tour, this year’s collaboration is limited to a series of select dates. Even before hitting the road, Limp Bizkit was already showing their admiration for Metallica by regularly performing an abridged version of “Master of Puppets,” the title track from Metallica’s iconic 1986 album.
Guitarist Wes Borland took his tribute even further earlier this month, delivering a creative interpretation of Metallica’s instrumental classic “Orion.” During Limp Bizkit’s opening set last night at Toronto’s Rogers Centre, Borland made another subtle but meaningful nod to Metallica’s legacy.
Borland customized his guitar with the phrase “EET PHO,” a clever tribute to James Hetfield’s famous ‘EET FUK’ slogan, famously displayed on Hetfield’s 1987 ESP MX220 guitar during the mid to late 1980s.
In a fan-captured video, the homage appears briefly, making it easy to miss. In fact, Wes Borland himself commented in surprise when a fan noticed it, replying, “How did you even see that in the video?”
Limp Bizkit’s upcoming dates alongside Metallica and Ice Nine Kills include:
05/03 – Nashville, TN @ Nissan Stadium
05/23 – Philadelphia, PA @ Lincoln Financial Field
06/06 – Tampa, FL @ Raymond James Stadium
06/20 – Santa Clara, CA @ Levi’s Stadium
06/27 – Denver, CO @ Empower Field at Mile High
