Paradiddle, the acclaimed VR drumming game developed by Emre Tanirgan, is gearing up for its official launch on the Oculus Quest platform later this year. The game, which first debuted on PC VR five years ago and enjoyed a ‘V1’ launch on Steam and App Lab last year, has cultivated a devoted following among virtual reality drumming enthusiasts.
The forthcoming update for Paradiddle on the Oculus Quest promises an array of exciting additions. Players will be treated to a collection of 13 new instruments, including the unique addition of steel drums, significantly expanding the already extensive selection of playable instruments to a grand total of 67. This diverse instrument library can be arranged in customized setups, alongside options such as glockenspiels and timpani, offering a truly distinctive drumming experience.
Beyond the enriched instrument repertoire, the update also boasts the introduction of 14 new songs, providing fresh challenges and experiences for players to immerse themselves in. However, the headline feature of this update is the introduction of multiplayer support. Up to four players can now engage in drumming sessions together, adding a social and collaborative dimension to the gameplay. The multiplayer functionality extends to both the ‘Freeplay’ and ‘Competitive’ modes, offering players diverse ways to enjoy Paradiddle with friends.
Emre Tanirgan underscores the flexibility of the Quest update, which will allow players to connect the game with MIDI devices such as electronic drum kits and pedals, enabling the seamless integration of their physical drumming equipment into the virtual experience. Furthermore, Paradiddle will support MIDI output, creating an interface for users to effortlessly merge their gameplay with digital audio workstations like Ableton.
Another exciting facet of this update is the advanced mixed reality and augmented drum kit support. This feature empowers players to incorporate their physical drum kits into the gameplay while immersing themselves in the captivating virtual world.
While Paradiddle is currently accessible on Quest via App Lab, the full release featuring all these enhancements is anticipated to arrive later in the year. Additionally, the update will also be made available for the SteamVR version of the game, ensuring a consistent experience across different platforms. Drumming enthusiasts and VR aficionados alike can look forward to an enriched and collaborative musical journey with the arrival of Paradiddle on Oculus Quest.
