STAMFORD – The enchanting sounds of organ and trumpet will fill the historic sanctuary of the First Presbyterian Church in Stamford, NY, as the sixth recital of the “Organ Music in the Catskills” concert series takes center stage. Organist Eddie Zheng and trumpeter Vincent Yim, both students at The Juilliard School in New York City, will showcase their talents in a holiday-themed performance on Wednesday, December 20th at 3 pm.
The repertoire for the recital spans a range of festive works by renowned composers, including J.S. Bach, Couperin, Dupre, Guilmant, Howells, Stanley, and Telemann. The setting for this musical journey is the First Presbyterian Church, adorned with a historic sanctuary organ crafted by Hook and Hastings in 1891, presenting an unaltered example of early American organ building.
About the Performers:
Eddie Zheng, a rising concert organist driven by a passion for sharing the beauty of organ music, has received acclaim from diverse audiences across the United States, Canada, France, and China. A winner of several prestigious competitions, including the 2018 Albert Schweitzer Organ Competition and the 2019 AGO Quimby Northeast Regional Competition, Eddie is also committed to education and service playing. Currently serving as Assistant Organist at Saint Ignatius of Antioch Episcopal Church in New York, he maintains a teaching studio and continues his studies at Juilliard under Paul Jacobs.
Eddie’s commitment to expanding the appreciation of organ music led to the founding of the ‘Organ Music in the Catskills’ series in 2021, bringing recitals to audiences in the region featuring various musical genres.
Vincent Yim, born in 2002, is a pianist and trumpeter with a remarkable musical journey. A Kovner Fellowship recipient at Juilliard, Vincent studies under the guidance of Mr. Raymond Mase and Mr. Chris Martin, principal trumpet of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. With a decade of active participation in orchestras in Hong Kong, Vincent has showcased his musical prowess in various ensembles.
The concert, featuring this dynamic duo, welcomes attendees with a free-will offering at the door, suggesting a donation of $5. Following the performance, light refreshments will be served, fostering a sense of community and celebration. The First Presbyterian Church is located at 96 Main St. in Stamford, offering a picturesque setting for a delightful evening of music.
